Position Summary:

The Engineer is responsible for the design, development, operation, and maintenance of Information Technology business solutions and software applications.  The Engineer uses technical knowledge to solve business problems, by means of a systematic and disciplined approach. This position employs software, hardware, and/or communication technologies to accomplish assignments.

  • Designs, develops and implements computer systems and software applications
  • Creates technical design specifications
  • Participates in the testing and certification process
  • Supports, operates and maintains computer systems and software applications.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Interprets, refines and applies methods and procedures in accordance with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Information Technology industry standards and best practices as defined by Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd 
  • Remains current with industry trends in order to conceive, prototype and recommend technical approaches for IT systems and solutions that meet business needs.
  • Complies with PCI and Change Management policies
  • Performs other duties as required

ESSENTIAL SOFTWARE ENGINEERING / DEVELOPER SKILLS:

1.       Service Oriented Architecture solutions development (SOAP, REST, JSON based services)

2.       EAI development using a middleware platform and messaging solution (WebSphere ESB, TIBCO BusinessWorks, MQSeries, EMS)

3.       Programming in:

a.       3GL (e.g. Java, C#, C )

b.      Scripting language (e.g. JavaScript, PHP, Unix shell scripting)

c.       Markup language (e.g. HTML, XML)

d.      Structured Query Language

4.       Integrated Development Environment (e.g. Eclipse, Visual Studio)

5.       Data structures and algorithms

6.       Database design

7.       Operating systems (e.g. Windows, Unix)

8.       Relational databases (e.g. MS-SQL)

9.       Software Development Lifecycle

a.       Requirements analysis

b.      Solution Design

c.       Implementation

d.      Solution testing

e.      Deployment support

 

Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • 2-4 years of experience in Software Engineering / Information Technology

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of computer science or engineering technical concepts, practices and   procedures within a particular field
  • Able to communicate and implement technical solutions
  • Proven ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical peers
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team. 
  • May assist and guide junior staff as necessary
  • Demonstrate a certain degree of creativity with analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong with methodologies, tools, best practices and processes within specific area of responsibility 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Responsible and accountable
