As a Fleet Public Health Officer, you will be responsible to effectively promote, implement, and improve HA Group’s Public Health programs and activities through organized assessment, training, and support of shipboard operations and personnel.

A maximum of two (2) applicants will be approved respectively onboard Holland America Lines', and P&O Australia's vessels. This assignment will be 240 annual days in Length.

Job Responsibilities Include:

Operational Support

  •  Effectively communicates with both shipboard and shore side personnel to facilitate correct interpretation and application of public health policies and procedures.
  •  Provides support for a wide variety of public health emergencies including disease outbreak prevention and mitigation.
  • Assists in the development of public health policies and procedures by identifying gaps in policies and operations and providing practical recommendations.
  • Assists in the development of consistent and standardized public health training material for delivery to shipboard personnel.
  • Assists in identifying procedural priorities from internal and external sources and solicits feedback from internal stakeholders.
  • Supports the onboard Sanitation Officers through public health training, policy and procedure implementation, and responding to technical questions.
  • Assists ships in completing corrective actions and verifies that appropriate corrective actions have been implemented.
  • Contributes to other initiatives and/or ad hoc projects as directed by the Fleet Public Health Supervisor.

Audit and Quality Control

  • Conducts audits of shipboard and shore side public health programs and activities to verify compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Conducts shipboard public health training and identifies areas of service gaps.
  • Ensures timely completion and distribution of public health reports to management in an organized and actionable format.
  • Possesses and maintains a thorough understanding of HESS MS public health procedures, health authorities’ public health requirements, and environmental health systems and principles.

All duties must be completed in accordance with the company Core Values and all aspects of the C.R.U.I.S.E. program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental health, the biological sciences or equivalent field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in implementing or monitoring environmental or public health programs onboard cruise ships. A bachelor’s degree can substitute for experience.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, while prioritizing workloads. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with various teams. Analytical and logistics skills preferred.
