Description

The 2nd Engineer is a Watch standing Engineer. 



Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designated watch-keeping shift. Responsible for the administration, supervision and safe operation of the assigned watch as per ERM.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of assigned systems as per AMOS.
  •  Assist Electrical Department with upkeep of the Automation system for assigned systems.
  • If required make monthly ‘Status reports’ and weekly reports to the Chief Engineer on assigned systems.
  • Ensure that all logs and books have been filled out, as per company regulations, for assigned systems.
  • Follow up on spare parts inventory for your assigned systems and carry out physical spot checks in the storeroom in cooperation with the Storekeeper.
  • Responsible for updating the Oil Record Book if Bilge or Sludge transfer has taken place during watch.
  • If assigned ensure the pumping of the day and settling tanks occurs and is documented.
  • When reporting ready for duty the Engineer shall ensure they are familiarized with the status of all machinery and equipment in the Engine Room.
  • Responsible for writing a hand-over report for the relieving engineer
  • If conditions occur that can threaten the safety or operation of the vessel, the Chief Engineer must be promptly notified.
  • Ensure they are paying extra attention to all activities and conditions that can cause operational disturbance or safety hazards, and act accordingly.
  • To be familiar with and execute the Seabourn HESS-MS appropriate to their position.
  • Other duties as assigned by their Supervisor.


Skills, Knowledge & Expertise


Education:  

  • Engineering Officer of the Watch issued or recognized by vessel’s flag state.
  • Completed cadetship, preferable on deep sea trade vessels.


Experience:  

  • Prior work experience with Seabourn preferred
  • 3-5 seagoing engineering experience


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Second Engineer (STCW Regulation III/2) (Valid 5 yrs)
  • Bahamian Endorsement of National Marine License (Valid 5 yrs)
  • ERM with CSMART (STCW Section B VIII/2)
  • ERM 2 with CSMART
  • EPA - Refrigeration Certificate
  • Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (STCW Regulation VI/2) (Valid 5 yrs)
  • Crisis Management (STCW Section A-V/3) (Valid 5 yrs)
  • Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW Regulation VI/3)
  • Security Awareness (STCW Section A-VI/6)
  • Basic Safety Training (STCW Section A-VI/1-4)
  • High Voltage Management Level (STCW Reg. III/ 2&3) ** req. from Jan 1, 2017
  • Safety Familiarization and Crowd Management (STCW A-V/3)
