Description

The 1st Officer is primarily responsible for the safe navigation and conduct of the ship, and the safety of passengers and crew. They may also be responsible for the GMDSS. 



Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe navigational watch as assigned by the Master, in accordance with the Company HESS-MS, And Regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that testing and all maintenance work for all systems and equipment has been logged properly as per HESS-MS. Knowledge of AMOS.
  • Keep the Master informed of the navigational progress of the voyage as per Master’s Standing Orders.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Amver (Automated mutual assistance Vessel Rescue system) and other voyage reporting routines are established and carried out as per instructions from Master.
  • Adhere to all environmental regulations including internal reporting, as well as external reporting requirements to coastal authorities.
  • Be familiar with and able to participate in Mooring/anchoring operations.
  • Participates in Water Sports as directed under the Staff Captain.
  • Carry out emergency duties as set out in the Ship’s emergency plan and Muster list. Is also required to fully participate in all Safety, Environmental, and Security Drills.
  • Assists as directed by the Staff Captain with Safety and Operational Training, as well as the inspection of all safety equipment.
  • Be involved with the job duty training of the Deck Ratings
  • To be familiar with and execute the Seabourn HESS-MS appropriate to their position.
  • Will be assigned to the position of Navigation Officer, Lifesaving Officer, or Fire Safety Officer.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Staff Captain or Master.


Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Education:  

  • Class 2 Certificate (acceptable under Bahamas Maritime Authority
  • Chief Mate all ships


Experience:
 

  • Prior work experience with Seabourn preferred or similar.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Chief Mate (STCW Regulation II/2) (Valid 5 yrs)
  • GMDSS (STCW Regulation IV/1) (Valid 5 yrs)
  • Bahamian Endorsement of National Marine License (Valid 5 yrs)
  • Bahamian Endorsement of National GMDSS License (Valid 5 yrs)
  • BRM 1 with CSMART (STCW Section A-II/1 & A-VIII/2) (Valid 5 yrs)
  • BRM 2 with CSMART
  • NACOS Training
  • ECDIS Training (STCW Section A-II/1)
  • Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (STCW Regulation VI/2) (Valid 5 yrs)
  • Crisis Management (STCW Section A-V/3) (Valid 5 yrs)
  • Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW Regulation VI/3)
  • Security Awareness (STCW Section A-VI/6)
  • Medical First Aid & Medical Care (STCW Section A-VI/4 1&2)
  • Basic Safety Training (STCW Section A-VI/1-4)
  • Safety Familiarization and Crowd Management (STCW A-V/3)
