A large cruise line is seeking a Stage and Production Manager to join one of their ships. The Stage & Production Manager is responsible for the overall entertainment production value, smooth daily operations, and safety of the ship’s entertainment venues, including the main theatre and alternative entertainment venues. This includes managing the Entertainment Staff & Operators, Production Cast and Headline Entertainers, overseeing maintenance and inventory in entertainment venues, maintaining the quality of the produced shows and events, executing shows and events, and creating an environment that facilitates the needs for our performers and Cruise Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Create clear and concise schedules for the Entertainment Operators, Entertainment Staff, Production Cast, and Headline Entertainers. Schedules are to be communicated and distributed to team members in a timely fashion.
  • Creates reports (EOV’s) for all shows that happen in the Theatre and notes on all direct reports.
  • Liaise with Cruise Director and Activity Manager on creating rehearsal and show schedules for all produced events in the Theatre and alternative entertainment venues.
  • Attend and manage all key - A Drivers, Produced Events and any event the Cruise Director is hosting in the Theatre.
  • Responsible for all rehearsals and technical rehearsals in the Theatre; ensuring everyone is present on time and that all those involved have everything they need to have a successful rehearsal. The S&PM will be the primary voice in the room that keeps everyone on task and aware of changes or updates.
  • Responsible for the supervision and performance management of the Production Cast, Entertainment Operators and Entertainment Staff.
  • Responsible for receiving and communicating important information from shipboard leadership and policies to the Production Cast, Entertainment Operators & Staff, and Headline Entertainers by holding regular staff meetings and other means of clear communication.
  • Communicate clearly with head office any issues, problems, concerns that may arise in daily operations.
  • Responsible for the correct and safe cue calling and operation of automation for all shows in the Theatre.
  • Ensures music and lighting in all venues is aesthetically pleasing and appropriate by carrying out regular ship wide walks in addition to the AV on duty.
  • Oversees with Entertainment Operator Fly and Head Entertainment Operator the safe use of aerial and automation systems in the Theatre and the alternative entertainment venues ensuring only produced/approved material and equipment is utilized.
  • Liaise with Production Cast and AV team to ensure scenery, props and equipment are set up/struck at appropriate times in the Theatre and entertainment venues.
  • Responsible for all entertainment technical facilities including backstage areas, dressing rooms, quick changes, ship-wide AV lockers and stores, wardrobe facilities, etc. Will ensure all areas are kept clean and tidy by cast and technical team members, that all shipboard Safety and SQM policies are met, and report maintenance issues as needed.
  • Work closely with the Head Entertainment Operator and Entertainment Operators to ensure all theatre and venue equipment is maintained and inspected accordingly (Maintenance Reports to be submitted to head office as required). Assign maintenance and upkeep tasks to Entertainment Operators and Staff on a regular basis.
  • Monitor reports and ratings pertaining to Theatre Production Shows and Headline Entertainers. Participate in creating action plans for meeting targets with the Cruise Director. Respond to ATD and GRO comment cards regarding the theatre and shows as requested by the Cruise Director.
  • Administrative tasks which should include but not limited to:
    • Creating daily schedules for the Entertainment Operators, Entertainment Staff, Production Cast and Headline Entertainers.
    • Creating and updating Show Reports for all shoes/events in the theatre and major A-Driver cast events in the alternative entertainment venues.
    • Update Turn Around reports for Entertainment Operators, Entertainment Staff, Production Cast and Headline Entertainers (when on Crew Manifest).
    • Update and monitor effective time keeping (Kronos & ILO) for Entertainment Operators, Staff and Production Cast. Perform Timecard Audit Verifications on all edits and alterations made as required.
    • Create and input appraisals for the Production Cast, Entertainment Operators, and Entertainment Staff.
    • Create and input performance management documents (POLs, Action Plans, Warnings) for the Production Cast, Entertainment Operators, and Entertainment Staff as necessary.
    • Monitor ratings and reports each cruise pertaining to Theatre Production Shows and Headline Entertainers.
    • Update the Guest Log as needed for general performance and technical issues.
    • Liaise with local folkloric performance groups and artists who perform in the Theatre or alternative entertainment venues, ensuring required equipment is available and rehearsal / show requirements
    • are realized.
    • Create Fleet Visitor requests for local folkloric performance groups, artists, and crew guests as required.
    • Work closely and communicate with the Head Entertainment Operator to ensure the Entertainment Operators & Staff have the required resources to complete their jobs – create Crunch Time orders as required.
    • Updating OCIMS with safety observations as required.

Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in entertainment or theatrical management (stage, technical or production) from an accredited university or equivalent experience is required.

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in entertainment or theatrical management.
  • Prior experience working with stage automation and mechanized performer flying preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse team environment to meet overall established timeframes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and tactfully with department heads, coworkers, and other shipboard employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • High level of ability to successfully accomplish several tasks under pressure and fixed time constraints.
  • Working knowledge of computers, Internet access, and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages such as Excel, Word, or related programs.
  • Previous cruise line or touring experience a plus.
