Reporting to the HR Manager, the Human Resources Specialist serves as one of the first contacts in Human Resources for crewmembers to provide resource information and support as needed in the areas of crew welfare, fitness, training, and recreational activities. Maintains an awareness of the shipboard employee morale and gathers information to make recommendations to maintain a positive environment.

All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies. Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and
throughout the ship. In accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s philosophy of Anchored in Excellence , each employee conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crew areas.

  1. Chairs the Crew Welfare Committee Meetings, ensures proper representation of crew from all divisions. Responsible for Crew Welfare Budget, Resources and expenses, Funds allocation from the Company, and fund raisers. In charge of setting up Give Program Fund Raising, with approval by Crew Welfare Committee. With approval of the Crew Welfare Committee, HRM, and Master, purchases items for well being of the crew.
  2. Fully Responsible for the Crew Market / Slop Chest operation to include: Manning, Ordering, Stocking, and maintaining accurate inventory and recordkeeping.
  3. Responsible for Service Awards inventory/par, orders and planning of the event. First point of contact for VIC cards, ensures supply is adequate at all times
  4. Responsible for ensuring crew fitness and sports equipment is safe and in good operating condition, and oversees storing of equipment, signing in and out of equipment, inventory and plans for replacements as necessary.
  5. Responsible for Crew communication, Newsletter, Crew Channel/Movies in accordance with ship schedule, Monthly activities posting.
  6. Plan and execute activities for the crew: recreational activities for crew, including external excursions, on board discount purchase, evening activities, and monthly crew parties.Responsible for and monitors all private crew function requests in designated areas.
  7. Responsible for checking Crew Mess and Staff/Officer Mess food for freshness, variety and meets with Chef for any concerns brought forth by crew. Member of the Food Committee.
  8. Supervise cleanliness in all crew areas across the ship. Supervise the corridors cleanliness. Work closely with the facilities division.
  9. Assist the HRM in Maintaining and updating Career Planning Job Postings. Have regular updating and information sharing meetings with HR Manager.
  10. Assist the HR Center in the crew sign-On/off process, quarterly full crew check with preparation and passport audits. Issues and/or collects Sea Pass Cards, Cabin Keys, Cabin Inspection Forms, life jackets, safe deposit keys and any other company issued equipment or materials for crew signing off/on.
  11. Assist the T&D manager in New Hire and Rejoining Crew orientation. Provides ship tours with full explanations of rules as they apply to: (Crew Fitness Center, Employee Mess rooms, Laundry Machine Areas, Sports equipment areas process for usage, Bulletin Boards, Master’s Rules and Regulations, HR Center, and hours of operation, Recreational Crew Areas, Crew Internet Café, Library, Training Rooms, Bars, etc).
  12. Performs related duties as required. Hiring Requirements:

  • Two years human resources experience with a background in employee relations, labor relations, training or related field pertaining to employee morale and wellness, fitness and/or compliance issues.
  • Expanded ability to work within the MS Office software programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point is required, and knowledge of Access is preferred.
  • Ability to understand general mathematical equations in Excel and budget reports.
  • Experience in a medium to large hotel, resort or in a hospitality industry equivalent is preferred.
  • Exposure to an international environment is preferred.
  • Ability to present with excellent public speaking skills to groups of 20 or more.
  • Ability to conduct activities to enhance morale and/or associated training programs.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of ethnic and cultural diversity.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or related field or its international equivalent, preferred.
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
  • Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French or German preferred.
  • Ability to understand general mathematical equations in Excel and budget reports.
