POSITION SUMMARY
The sole purpose of the Aqua Cast Support Diver (ACSD) position is to act as a first responder in the AquaTheater during all rehearsals and show performances (both underwater and on deck). The ACSD is required to participate in the venue maintenance program, must conduct regular inspections of the underwater rigging and safety systems, and is responsible for day-to-day maintenance of all AquaTheater Scuba equipment. Additionally, will support non-SCUBA diving venues on a rotational basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a shipboard position. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies.
In accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s philosophy of Anchored in Excellence, each employee conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crew areas.
Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and throughout the ship.
1. Reporting Structure
- The ACSD will report directly to the Senior Aqua Support Diver (where applicable).
- The ACSD will report and work in conjunction with the AquaTheater Stage Production Manager.
2. Technical & Artistic Integrity
- Works with the Aqua Captain, Senior Aqua Support Diver, and AquaTheater Stage Production Manager when modifications need to be made to any show, ensuring that these modifications can be executed in a safe manner without compromising the integrity of the show.
- Ensures that all Aquatic Stage Staff understands and executes their underwater duties in a safe manner; and to alert the Senior Aqua Support Diver, AquaTheater Stage Production Manager, and Technical Director Entertainment of any concerns.
- Attends all warm-ups, performances, technical rehearsals, and rescue trainings.
3. Show Related Duties
- Ensures that all:
• pre-show safety requirements and tests relating to the performance area and safety equipment are carried out, with particular attention given to underwater air delivery systems
• air cylinders are filled before each performance.
• Must remain vigilant at all times underwater, especially when hydraulic lifts are in motion. If, during the movement of hydraulic lifts, any emergency or high-risk situations occur then the ACSD must fully understand all operational procedures in the AquaTheater and respond accordingly.
• Participates in all the pre-sets and strikes of the AquaTheater shows.
• Acts as a show support diver during rehearsals and performances of the AquaTheater shows by assisting cast members underwater and moving and positioning set pieces and props.
4. Maintenance and Inventory
- Ensures that all equipment in the AquaTheater is secured, attached and/or properly stored to prevent damage or equipment loss in cases of rough seas or high degrees of list.
- Works closely with the Sound and Light Technicians, Entertainment Performer Flying Specialists, Senior Aqua Support Diver, and the Technical Stage Staff Team to assist with any show related repairs, maintenance and inspections.
- Responsible for the maintenance of all underwater safety equipment. This should be coordinated with the AquaTheater Stage Production Manager. Items that cannot be maintained onboard should be landed to vendors for recertification and maintenance. The ACSD must inform the Senior Aqua Support Diver and AquaTheater Stage Production Manager of all equipment certification expiration dates to ensure that these items are landed in a timely manner.
- Maintains inventory list(s) of all entertainment equipment in the AquaTheater (excluding equipment inventoried by the Sound and Light Technicians and Entertainment Performer Flying Specialists as outlined in SQM and SOP), describing both the status and functioning order of the equipment.
- Coordinates with the Senior Aqua Support Diver and AquaTheater Stage Production Manager to maintain an adequate inventory of equipment for repairs of the SCUBA, Hookah, underwater rigging and safety systems.
5. Coaching, Development and Rescue Training
- Ensures that ACSDs and all Aquatic Stage Staff are fully cross-trained in all underwater tracks.
- Assists any Technical Stage Staff who are interested in becoming Aquatic Stage Staff. Once the Technical Stage Staff is PADI certified, the ACSD should introduce them to the underwater elements of the show and assess their readiness to shadow and take over tracks.
- Responsible to lead the existing rescue scenario trainings set out in the relevant SQM and SOP. Should any new rescue scenarios arise, the ACSD must inform the Senior Aqua Support Diver, AquaTheater Stage Production Manager, and Shoreside Entertainment offices for approval in order for them to update the relevant SOP accordingly.
6. Administrative Function
- Attends applicable shipboard related meetings and trainings as required.
- In order to maintain continuity of business, the ACSD shall ensure that accurate and up to date notes are kept and treated as a living document. This document must include written, photo, and video documentation to allow a smooth changeover with the incoming ACSD reliever. Additionally, will be expected to cross-train with other ACSD onboard their respective ship.
- Ensures that all passwords (administrative & entertainment technical) are stored securely and locally in more than one location. Both the AquaTheater Stage Production Manager and the Technical Director Entertainment must have full access to these passwords at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Open Water Instructor certified by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), or globally recognized equivalent diving agency is required (SSI, SDI, NAUI).
- Ability to dive utilizing SCUBA apparatus, including full face mask, and work under water in a confined freshwater pool for up to 60 minutes or more during a live performance.
- It is ACSD's responsibility to ensure that one's diver skills are maintained to the best of their ability and exercised at least once over the course of 6 months.
- CPR certification and lifesaving certification from the American Red Cross or similar certifying organization.
- Proof and possession of PADI insurance, with the additional insured listed as “Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Subsidiaries and Affiliates.” Liability coverage required is US$1,000,000 for bodily injury and property and US$2,000,000 for combined single limit and annual aggregate. (it is the responsibility of the Aqua Cast Support Diver to continue to keep this insurance in place and up to date during the entire duration of their employ with RCI). Cost of to be reimbursed by RCL Entertainment.
- Ability to operate and perform maintenance on a variety of equipment regulators, etc.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Previous experience working in, or knowledge of theatrical production/entertainment industry is preferred.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially under all circumstances.
- Ability to understand and apply the SCUBA industry approved hand signals.
- Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures (equipment manuals, operations manuals, memos, technical procedures and necessary rules and regulations). This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms, and to effectively present information to subordinates and colleagues.
PHYSICAL, VISION AND HEARING REQUIREMENTS
• Physical: Must pass the company required medical evaluation.
- The completion of all the following physical requirements are necessary and need to be completed in less than two hours. This must be demonstrated upon the arrival to the first assignment and 3 times a year thereafter. All job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of these requirements. One mile run: ability to complete a one mile run in eight (8) minutes or less. Push-ups: ability to complete thirty-five (35) consecutive push-ups. The modified knee version is an option available to women candidates. Sit-ups: ability to complete fifty (50) consecutive repetitions. 400 yard swim: ability to swim 400 yards, in nine (9) minutes or less, while demonstrating at least three (3) different swim styles, the crawl or freestyle, breast stroke and side stroke. The majority of the distance can be completed by crawl or freestyle strokes. 1,000 yard snorkel swim: ability to swim 1,000 yards in nineteen (19) minutes or less, using a mask, snorkel and fins. Tow Inert Swimmer: ability to wear a mask, fins and vest, to tow an inert swimmer 50 yards while performing mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing. Once on land, CPR procedures must be performed.
- Vision: Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
