We are pleased to announce that we are looking to hire a 1st Engineer for the Engine Department, working for the BSMCruise managed vessels.

Your responsibility will include, but will not be limited to:

Main Responsibilities:

Supervision of and assignment of tasks to engine department personnel
Management of watchkeeping personnel in the Engine Room and related areas
Issue and enforcement of appropriate Permits to Work
Advising HoED on:
All important matters connected with the engine department.
Progress of maintenance and any repair work
Matters of seaworthiness
Report to HoED:
Accidents and Incidents, Near Misses, Unsafe Conditions and Unsafe Acts
Non-conformities or defects if/when discovered.
Work and rest hour breaches / records.
Thorough examination of engine/deck machinery and maintenance records upon joining
Maintenance, control, and safe use of all lifting appliances in the engine room
Controlling and recording the inventory and economic use of Engine spares and consumables
Communicate regularly with the HoDD and HoHD on operational matters affecting their respective departments.
Status and immediate availability of emergency systems and lifesaving equipment
Testing of stand-by equipment for immediate use as well as maintaining critical spares
Implement and follow standing orders.
Supervise bunkering operations as required.
Liaise with the HoDD with regards to stability and stress when bunkering
Monitor operation and any discharges of the exhaust gas cleaning system / Scrubbers where fitted.
Control BWMS as applicable.

Assist with:

Planning and control of maintenance and operations
Training of engine assistants, cadets, ratings, and trainees
Engine crew appraisal process
Management of the Planned Maintenance System

Ensure:

Maintenance of fixed safety systems and equipment
Procedures for the control of portable pipes, hoses and pumps are followed.
Correct setting of valves and lines prior to loading lubricants
Cleanliness and tidiness of engine and boiler rooms
Crew compliance with safety and hygiene requirements.
Operation of alarms and safety systems prior to placing engines on standby or conventional operation

Act as:

Substitute for the HoED as required.
Engineer on Duty as required.
Designated Engine Department Training Officer (DTO):
Identify training needs of officers and crew in the engine department.
Arrange and supervise practical and theoretical engine training on board.
Act as mentor to engine crew, including cadets, assistants, and trainees.
Assist cadets with the completion of Training Record Books
Complete specific training documentation according to BSM policy
Role model for leadership and exemplary personal conduct
Attend Ship Safety and Environmental Protection Committee as required.

Other duties and responsibilities:

Comply with Company’s SMS and international standards and regulations.
Form part of the emergency response team (specific duties as per ships emergency organisation)
Promote good working relationships on board.
Completion of the Engine Room Logbook as required.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the HoED.

Minimum requirements:

Requirements as per company certification matrix
Up-to-date technical knowledge of all equipment in engine room
Excellent verbal and written command of the English language
Strong management skills including but not limited to:
Communication
Organisation and planning
Decision-making
Problem-solving
People management skills including but not limited to:
Leadership
Conflict-resolution
Active listening
Patience
Ability to lead, motivate and develop multinational crew.

Key Attributes:
• Previous shipboard experience or relevant experience in similar position
• Fluent in English – must have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Flexibility – must be able to work various times of the day, remain calm under pressure and have a can-do attitude

Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the English language is required.

Work Experience Requirements

All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Cruise Ship.
