• Role:                Sommelier
• Cruise line:      5 star Cruise Liner
• Reporting to:   Head Sommelier / Assistant Maître D’

• Salary:       $1,415USD per month + up to $1500USD additionally in commissions (not guaranteed and subject to variables)

• Rotation:         29 weeks contract onboard/ 10 weeks’ vacation unpaid
• Berthing:         Shared Cabin
• Stripes:           1 Stripe
• Start date:       ASAP
• JD:                   Full JD on application
• Required:        New cruise medical, US C1/D visa (reimbursed), background check, STCW certificate (online) to adhere to the cruise line company covid vaccination policy.

You the BRILLIANT Sommelier;

• Will have a minimum 5 years of beverage-related experience (shipboard experience preferred), or a reputable restaurant or wine-focused establishment.
• You will have completed a recognized sommelier certification program (e.g. Certified Sommelier, WSET Level 2 or WSET Level 3), additional wine education or hospitality-related qualifications are preferred.
• You will have in-depth knowledge of wine regions, varietals, vintages, and production techniques.
• You will be able to use effective communication and engagement with customers regarding wine knowledge.
• You will be expected to and able to promote and upsell wine to the onboard guests.
• You will show potential leadership qualities.

The SUPERB Role Overview

• You will conduct yourself in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
• Providing wine service to guests in the restaurant and buffet restaurant. In some cases will be responsible for providing bar services other than wine.
• Working in a station designated by the Head Sommelier and approved by the Restaurant Manager and follows the daily schedule, which is posted weekly in the wine cellar.
• In addition to serving wine your duties include the re-stocking of the wine cellar on a daily basis, and once a week may be requested to work during the loading of wines onto to the ship.
• You will ensure personal appearance, personal hygiene and uniform appearance are at all times in accordance with the company policy.
• You should be knowledgeable about the wine list and able to discuss and suggest wines to guests who ask for advice. The knowledge of how to pair wine with food is imperative.
• You will have a clear understanding of the company’s service standards.
• You will apply salesmanship techniques in order to achieve maximum sales, which will result in higher personal compensation.
• You must be able to reach reasonable and attainable sales targets set by the company. This requires self-confidence and commitment to the sales goals.
• You will report all guests’ queries, discrepancies or suggestions to your immediate supervisor.
• You must have full knowledge of the cashless system on board the ship in order to process all transactions accordingly.
• Your duties will include the cleaning and sanitizing of his/her working area and working utensils following the United States Public Health rules and regulations and all times.
• You must be available to work extra duties or longer hours if necessary.
• some other duties related to the Bar Department may be assigned from time to time.
• You are aware of, and/or acquires the necessary knowledge to comply with the ship’s standard operation, in order to assist guests and crewmembers with inquiries.
• You will attend meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required.
• You will perform related duties as required.
