Chief Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Chief Engineer to join our engineering leadership team aboard a luxury cruise ship. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall management, operation, and maintenance of all technical systems and machinery on the ship. This critical role ensures the safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance of the ship’s engineering department, providing a seamless and enjoyable experience for both guests and crew.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all shipboard technical systems, including engines, generators, propulsion systems, electrical systems, HVAC, and water and waste management systems.
- Ensure compliance with all international maritime regulations (ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL) and company safety standards.
- Lead and manage the engineering department, including staff engineers, hotel engineers, electricians, mechanics, and other technical personnel.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure the optimal performance and reliability of all equipment and machinery.
- Maintain detailed technical logs and ensure all records are up-to-date and compliant with company and regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any mechanical or technical issues that may arise, coordinating repairs and communicating effectively with the Captain and other departments.
- Manage the ship’s energy consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives where possible.
- Work closely with the ship’s safety officer to ensure that all safety equipment, including fire suppression and life-saving systems, are in excellent working order.
- Monitor inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and consumables, and coordinate with the purchasing department to ensure availability.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of the engine room and all technical areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance.
- Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to the engineering team, ensuring a high level of competence and professionalism.
- Lead emergency response procedures related to the ship’s technical systems, ensuring the engineering team is well-prepared for any incidents.
- Collaborate with the Captain and hotel management to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, minimizing technical disruptions for guests and crew.

Qualifications:

- Valid Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (STCW III/2)
- Valid STCW certification
- Extensive experience as a Chief Engineer on cruise ships.
- In-depth knowledge of marine engineering systems, including propulsion, electrical, HVAC, and safety equipment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
- Proven track record of ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining safety standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, effective decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Fluent in English;
- Willingness to work on rotation aboard the vessel for extended periods.
