Safety Officer

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer to join our team aboard a luxury cruise ship. The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance across all shipboard operations. This key role focuses on the implementation and enforcement of safety protocols, training of crew members, and oversight of emergency preparedness to ensure a safe and secure environment for both guests and crew.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee and implement the ship's safety management system, ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations, including ISM (International Safety Management), SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), and MARPOL (Marine Pollution).
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and drills to ensure the ship meets all safety requirements and that crew members are well-prepared for emergency situations.
- Ensure all safety equipment, including fire extinguishing systems, lifeboats, life rafts, and personal protective equipment, is in good working condition and ready for immediate use.
- Lead emergency response procedures and coordinate with the ship’s officers and crew to handle potential crises, including fire, flooding, man-overboard, or medical emergencies.
- Provide training and guidance to crew members on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and safe working practices.
- Maintain up-to-date safety documentation and records, including reports of safety drills, equipment inspections, and incident investigations.
- Investigate safety incidents, accidents, or near-misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Work closely with the Captain and senior officers to ensure a culture of safety throughout the vessel and to address any safety concerns or violations promptly.
- Monitor the ship’s compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management and pollution prevention measures.
- Serve as a liaison between the ship’s crew and management regarding safety issues, providing clear communication and updates on safety protocols and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both guests and crew, ensuring all public areas, crew spaces, and operational zones are hazard-free.

Qualifications:

- II/2 Master CoC
- Valid STCW certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a safety officer role or similar position aboard cruise ships or large vessels.
- In-depth knowledge of international maritime safety regulations, including ISM, SOLAS, and MARPOL.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to train and motivate crew members in safety practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English;
- Willingness to work on rotation aboard the ship for extended periods.
