PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Learning & Development Coordinator is responsible for all shipboard training processes, training record keeping and the crew welfare program. They foster a culture of continuous learning and teamwork, enhancing crew engagement and job satisfaction. 
 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage all learning and e-learning programs on board the vessel, including planning, evaluation, and administration.
  • Deliver training courses including but not limited to the Viking Guest Service Excellence Program, Viking Onboarding Program and Viking Leadership Program. 
  • Drive leadership development by providing coaching to the Department Heads, Supervisors and Crew Members to support their career growth and to cultivate talent and prepare for succession planning. 
  • Maintain and update training records in MXP, ensuring accurate data entry and reporting. 
  • Support the Crew Purser with the sign-on process during periods of high crew turnover.
  • Schedule the monthly training calendar, in coordination with other training, HR and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with onboard leadership and the HR Manager to assess crew performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support a multi-cultural team, maximizing crew satisfaction, productivity, and retention; visit departments on a daily basis for “The Daily Reunion”.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs by gathering feedback and monitoring outcomes, ensuring ongoing improvements and deliver this on a quarterly basis and upon request to the Viking L&D department. 
  • Take part in Train-the-Trainer sessions for new learning content and learning meetings organized by the Viking L&D department.
  • Coordinate and manage the crew welfare program, including planning activities, conducting welfare meetings, advertising on crew notice boards, and facilitating all onboard crew programs.
  • Oversee bicycle rental program and all associated maintenance.
  • Manage inventory for both crew welfare and training supplies.
  • Ensure you always wear the appropriate and task specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for your duties onboard. Always use correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
  • Uphold impeccable grooming standards at all times by complying with Viking’s Image and Uniform Standards.
  • Positively contribute to achieving/succeeding the KPI goals (quality & financial) for all departments; have full knowledge about safety & security procedures and can operate in line with all Public Health, Environmental and Safety & Security Policies; participate in all training concerning onboard training, safety & security, fire prevention, evacuation exercises as required by the company.
  • Coordinate and actively participate in special projects and fulfill any other requirements as directed by the onboard Human Resources Manager.

YOUR PROFILE

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as an Onboard Trainer, L&D Coordinator or similar position
  • Strong presentation, communication and facilitation abilities, with experience delivering training in a multicultural environment, ideally on board a vessel.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and guide crew members and the Leadership Team.
  • Solid administrative skills are preferred, and proficiency in PC-based databases, spreadsheets, and word processing systems (Word, Power Point) is required. Must be flexible, stress-resistant, and a committed team player.
  • Ability to work independently when delivering training and collaboratively when developing schedules and identifying needs with ship management.
  • Fluent in English - must be able to address any kind of information in an adequate manner with excellent oral and written English communication skills – the ability to speak an additional language is an advantage.
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance and impeccable hygiene standards are required, with excellent knowledge of all Public Health Policies; team builder with exceptional work ethic, motivational skills, training and coaching abilities.
