Description

The Yacht Bosun is the highest-ranking rating in the Nautical Department and is in charge of all subordinate nautical ratings on the yacht. The Yacht Bosun supervises and coaches the deckhands, working alongside the Staff Captain to plan and schedules all regular cleaning and maintenance. To emphasize our yacht like condition, regular practices including cleaning and painting of the yacht’s hull, decks, superstructure and all deck equipment, must be conducted consistently. This role requires daily tasks to be assigned to the deckhands, ensuring all work is performed to the highest standard. Being competent in safety operations, mooring, anchoring, tendering, watersports, handling lines and boats and Zodiac operations is also essential. The Yacht Bosun also conducts weekly inspections to ensure yacht like cleanliness and maintenance, monitoring scores and promptly addressing failing metrics (ex. Upkeep and Maintenance & LTI). Additionally, the Yacht Bosun ensures that all Gold Standards and Brand Culture is promoted and constantly embraced by the team, especially when interacting with guests.

Essential Duties

  1. Maintain and clean the ship's exterior, ensuring the yacht appears spotlessly clean and always exceptionally maintained. Extensive knowledge and experience of spraying, painting, fairing and polishing is crucial.  
  2. Maintain and improve the quality of the vessel’s interior and exterior, including but not limited to fixtures and fittings within all Guest and Crew areas. This includes Bolidt, brightwork, glass, paint, interior furniture and marble / hardwood flooring. 
  3. Manage the Yacht Bosun Store and inventory, ensuring it is always kept clean, tidy and well maintained. Stock and inventory control must be accurate, and all equipment is utilized to its full potential. 
  4. Schedules routine washdown and maintenance tasks, balancing them around operational demands to maximize the efficiency of the nautical department while maintaining the yacht and service to our guests at the highest standard.  
  5. Schedules employees for tender service and watersports activities, providing coaching and training to maintain the highest possible service standards to our guests. 
  6. Generate report logs and conduct on-going reviews to ensure that maintenance and component replacements are scheduled appropriately. 
  7. Supervises launching and recovery of tenders and zodiacs during operations, abandon ship drills and emergencies.
  8. Enforces the deck maintenance and interior cleanliness plans, integrating them into daily operations. Provides feedback to the Staff Captain when necessary.  
  9. Oversee Nautical (Deck) Department Responsibilities as defined in the Company’s Safety Management System; Deck Maintenance, Deck inventory control, Mooring stations and Tender operations. 
  10. Promotes the highest standards of Safety, Public Health, Security and Environmental compliance at all times and is an integral part of the Safety Committee. 
  11. Supervise mooring and anchoring operations 

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  1. Leads by example and hold others accountable for promoting the Gold Standards, respect and fair treatment.
  2. Ensures daily execution of Line-up in accordance with company standards and Brand Guidelines.
  3. Sets expectations for the department's behavior, knowledge and skill levels. Provides training on safety, washdown and detailing, maintenance and guest services. 
  4. Coaches and develops other team members, provides constructive feedback and helps them identify developmental needs. 
  5. Demonstrates alignment with corporate strategies and initiatives, ensuring consistency throughout the yacht organization.  


REPORTING & DOCUMENTATION 

  1. Strong report-writing skills are required to document deck operations, maintenance schedules and utilize our condition reporting tools.  
  2. The candidate may be asked to demonstrate prior experience in writing clear and professional reports. 


Qualifications

  1. Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and flag certification for the duration of the contract and appropriate to position
  2. Able Seafarer Certificate of Proficiency 
  3. Three (3) years’ experience as a Yacht Bosun on a 100M+ Superyacht. 
  4. Rating forming part of a navigational watch certificate 
  5. Tender driver certificate 


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Lady or Gentleman must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers
