JOB DESCRIPTION

  • The Broadcast Technician must produce approved content for shoreside when requested. Any request for production of content that has not been approved by shoreside, is not to be produced by the Broadcast Technicians. Please reference the Broadcast Content Approval/Production Policy.
  • The Technician must work together with the Communications Officer to ensure that the satellite is obtaining the correct televised feed, that the correct coordinates are set, and that the signal is stable.
  • The Broadcast Technician is responsible for updating the information channel daily (Scala or Powerpoint) as well as scheduling Passenger and Crew Movies to be shown on the broadcast channels.
  • When appropriate for shows where a large projection screen is available and the proper camera cabling (RCA, BNC) systems are present, (i.e. Pride of Aloha, Norwegian Sun) the Broadcast Technician is to set up the necessary equipment to broadcast the entertainment on the large screen for better viewing by the guests. Must be done 30 minutes prior to doors opening.
  • Every three months the Broadcast Technician must supply an up-to-date complete inventory of all BCC equipment to the Technical Supervisor for filing as well as the Broadcast Systems Supervisor in Miami.
  • Upon completion of set contract, the Broadcast Technician must provide detailed and accurate handover notes to the incoming Broadcast Technician, the Technical Supervisor, and the Broadcast Systems Supervisor in Miami.
  • In the case that equipment in the Broadcast Center should malfunction or require repair, the Broadcast Technician is to contact the Electronics Engineer/Junior, the Technical Supervisor, the Chief Electrical Engineer, Communications Officer, Cruise Director, and Miami shoreside management (Broadcast Systems Supervisor).
  • The Broadcast Technician should attend weekly meetings as scheduled by the Technical Supervisor.
  • Broadcast Technician is relieved of all cruise staff duties except in an emergency situation.
  • All video productions that are produced by the Broadcast Technician during his/her contract period are the property of NCL and are not to be reproduced at any time unless the NCL Miami office grants permission.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SEMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
  • Must be able to provide quality service and oversee the broadcast operation on a passenger vessel of more than 3,000 guests.
  • Required to be highly organized to deliver the needs of the position and coordinate with all internal and external constituents necessary to complete the required functions of the position.
  • Needs to be fully familiar with all of the broadcast options, show content, duration and nature of footage, costs associated if any and a detailed knowledge of broadcast entertainment and cruise programs.

NATURE AND SCOPE

  • Responsible for all equipment used by the Broadcast Technician and the TV programming equipment kept in the Broadcast Center.
  • Continually strives to better the guest experience and efficiency of the broadcast operation process by training staff members and looking for opportunities to further develop the method in which service is delivered.
  • Monitors Guest Satisfaction scorecards in relation to the broadcast operation and service provided. Follows up on necessary points raised or observed.
  • Communicates daily with the Cruise Director to give a summary of the evening prior.
  • The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND ATTRIBUTES

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two years experience in TV, broadcasting industry or equivalent in the Cruise industry is required.
  • Basic to Intermediate knowledge of the following programs is required: Microsoft Office, Final Cut Studio & Adobe Photoshop.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of both Windows and MAC operating systems is required.
  • Basic to Intermediate knowledge of HD/SD Broadcast Systems, Mini-DV camera systems (e.g.: Sony PD-170 Camera, etc.) and video deck operation (e.g.: Sony HDV deck) is required.
    Must supply a demo reel of previous documented video productions.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or foreign equivalent is required.
  • Associates degree or foreign equivalent in Media Arts, Film, Entertainment Studies, or other similar discipline is preferred.
