MIYSUI cruises will be expanding, therefore we are looking for experienced MASTER ready to join the fleet end of April / beginning of May 2025.
Contract 3 months on/off
Salary in USD/per month worked - will be advised upon interview.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
Command: The Master is the company's senior representative on board. He is responsible for the seaworthiness and safety of the vessel, equipment and all persons on board. He is in command of the vessel and has full authority over the ship's operation.
Final responsibility: The Master has the final responsibility for whatever takes place in all departments, whether these are Concessionaire's or owners'.
Reporting: The Master will report to the " ………OWNER and Tech Manager " who handles all routine communications with the vessel and who also provides voyage and other instructions to the Master.
Training of Deck Personnel: He also has the main responsibility for the training of Deck Officers and Crewmembers.
He shall ensure that the accepted concepts and practices of sound Bridge Resource Management are integrated into the Navigation practices of his vessel at all levels.
Financial Interests: The Master is responsible to the ship's Operatiors as it concerns the operatiors' financial interest and good name.
Discipline: He must maintain discipline at all times aboard his ship, using all the legal means at his disposal. In order to maintain the same during an emergency, he is authorized to take any measures that his experience, seamanship, common sense and regulations allow him to take.
Safety of Life at Sea: The safety of guests, crewmembers and vessel is the first and paramount considerations of the owners, and it is the first and most important duty of the Master.
The Management stresses this importance and expects the Master to enforce that Safety First is above everything and that accident prevention is of prime concern.
The Master must distinctly understand that he is responsible for the safe and efficient navigation of the vessel, and he is enjoined to remember that he must run no risk which might, by any possibility, result in an accident to his ship.
The Master shall ensure that all Bridge officers, which includes the Staff Captain, fully understands the Master’s expectations with regard to the Voyage or Passage Plans, watch keeping, navigation, collision avoidance and the policies and procedures set forth in the “Navigation Policy & Procedures” manual.
The Master is responsible to leave written instructions to the Bridge officers that will augment the Navigation Policy or standing orders.
The Master shall take steps to develop an effective working relationship between himself, the pilot and the rest of the Bridge Team. He will ensure that the actions of the pilot are effectively monitored at all times.
The Master shall supervise and participate in Voyage Planning (sea passages) and Passage Planning (port transits), ensuring that a detailed plan is created in accordance with the Navigation Planning section in the “Navigation Policy & Procedures” manual, for each part of the intended voyage.
The Master will approve each voyage and passage plan after it has been checked by at least two qualified Officers. Where the Master creates the Plan, another qualified Officer shall provide a two-person deck.
The Master is responsible to operate the vessel in accordance with all applicable port, state and international conventions, treaties and regulations and the company Safety Management System, as well as all company policies and procedures.
The Master is responsible for enforcement of the Company’s environmental policies, for ensuring compliance with international, national and local environmental requirements applicable to the ship’s operations and for working with the shore side Corporate Office in finding ways to continuously improve the company’s environmental performance. The Master is assisted in meeting these environmental responsibilities by his three department heads: the Staff Captain (responsible for the Deck Department), the Chief Engineer (responsible for the Engine Department), and the Hotel Director (responsible for the Hotel Department) and the Environmental Officer.
In the event of certain shipboard environmental accidents, incidents, or nonconformity’s with company environmental policy or applicable environmental regulatory requirements, the Master is to ensure that the proper international, national and/or local authorities have been notified, as appropriate or required and that the proper corporate officers have been informed.
The Master is also responsible for ensuring that the crewmembers receives proper training and demonstrates proficiency in the operation of environmental systems.
Personnel Safety: Must ensure that all Officers and supervisory personnel promote the vessel Personal Protective Equipment policy and ensure that it is followed, also by presenting a good example.
Guest Treatment: Finally, the Master must always keep in mind that he is the Captain of a passenger ship. It is his duty that our guests feel not only safe on board, but also welcome that they are being taken care of by experienced, courteous and friendly Officers and Crewmembers. Every effort should be made by the Master, his Officers and all Crewmembers to achieve this goal.
The Master must participate and also ensure that all Officers participate in planned social activities with the guests and must also encourage all Officers to protect a friendly and positive attitude towards all guests on board.
The Master must ensure that he is in frequent contact with the Hotel Director as to ensure that there is no issues pending that might affect the overall cruise experience of the guests.
He shall maintain a world class standard of service to the guests by:
§ Create a Positive Atmosphere’s onboard the vessel.
§ Be visible to guests at the beginning of each voyage and throughout the voyage…announcements, initial greetings, social activities, etc.
§ Walk around and meet guests…find out what they are enjoying and if there are any concerns; get feedback and act on it.
§ Communicate to the guests the Captain’s concern for them.
§ Recognize Repeat Guests in as many ways as possible.
§ Set high expectations with the ship’s employees for Guest Relations.
§ Be an outstanding example for the employees to follow…dress, conversation, attitude, behavior, etc. (Top – Down approach).
§ Reinforce high standards in officer, Crewmembers, and staff meetings.
§ Recognize high performers.
§ Closely supervise “unusual situations” that may affect other guests.
o Direct officers, Crewmembers, and staff to notify you immediately of problem situations.
o Handle disruptive guests quickly and discreetly.
o Listen closely to concerns.
o Be flexible when handling each situation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Ship’s Master has overriding authority and responsibility for quality, environmental protection including safety, pollution prevention and the efficient operation of his ship. In certain situations, this may mean deviation from documented procedures. This responsibility includes an overall review of the system as implemented on his vessel and reporting on compliance and suggestions for improvement.
In all matters, which affect or may affect quality, environment or safety, the Master shall report directly to the " owner and Technical Manager " and notify the Fleet Manager Operations and DPA directly:
a. Implementing the safety and environmental policy of the company, motivating the Crewmembers in the execution of that policy, issuing orders in a clear and concise manner and reviewing safety and pollution prevention activities.
b. Commands all shipboard operations, senior pilot navigator.
c. Reporting defects to the company and other matters with implications for safe operations or pollution risk and which require the assistance of the company.
d. Issuing appropriate orders and instructions in a clear and simple manner.
e. Appraising and coordinating on-board training requirements with the company.
f. Assigning roles to senior officers with respect to quality, safety and environmental protection.
g. Ensuring the system is kept in date by liaising with the DPA to arrange an audit.
h. Reviewing on-board contingency plans and vessel procedures and reporting any deficiencies to the "Fleet Manager and DPA".
i. Reporting non-conformities, accidents involving personnel or plant and hazardous situations to the company.
j. Ensuring that all documentation that is designated as ‘controlled’ is up to date and issued as per company procedures.
k. Requesting assistance from the company as may be deemed necessary to ensure safe and pollution free operation of the vessel.
l. Ensuring all records relevant to the SQM and as defined in procedures, are maintained and available.
m. Ensuring strict conformance to sanitation procedures for the Ship, guests and crewmembers.
n. Review the SQM and report any deficiencies to the DPA and/or "AVP, Nautical Operations & Fleet Captain".
o. Ensuring that ALL persons onboard are counted prior to departure and communicated not later then thirty (30) minutes after departure, to yourself and the company’s registrar.
Cost Efficiency: The Master shall at all times have consideration for the most efficient and economic operation of the ship. He must monitor all marine expenses and ensure vessel and in cooperation with the Chief Engineer ensure that vessel is operated within the budget guidelines. Variances are to be reviewed and discussed with the AVP Nautical and Technical Operations.
Authority to Refuse Embarkation: The Master has the authority to refuse embarkation or to disembark any passenger, concessionaires' or owners' personnel, when he considers that the presence of any person of the above is detrimental to the safety or discipline of the ship.
Compliance with the Law and Regulations: The Master is obliged to be informed and comply with the regulations and law of the country where the ship is berthed or whose territorial waters he is crossing.
Knowledge of the Vessel: The Master shall, upon joining a vessel, acquaint himself with the ship's business, passengers' accommodations, engine performance, lifeboat and other safety equipment, navigational equipment required by law, etc. He shall satisfy himself that his vessel is fully equipped for sea.
Training of Staff Captain: The Master shall be proactive in providing hands-on training where appropriate, to Staff Captain in maneuvering ship handling, in order that the Staff Captain in an emergency can take command. The practical way of training shall be decided by the Master. However, it should begin under the easiest conditions. If the Master should find that the Staff Captain is unable to learn how to maneuver the ship, he must report this to the "Fleet manager and DPA".
Confidential Affairs of the Company: Knowledge of the Company business and interests shall be regarded as confidential and shall not be the subject of conversation with passengers or anyone not directly involved with owning and managing the company.
Statements to the Press: The Master is prohibited from releasing any statements to the Press with reference to any matter concerning the Company, unless the same have been submitted to and have received the specific approval of the management in each instance.
Performance Appraisal: It is the Master's duty in consultation with the Chief Engineer, Hotel Director and Staff Captain to prepare carefully and submit Performance Appraisals for the personnel under his command in accordance with SQM policy.
Succession of Command: In case the Master is unable to perform his duties, the Staff Captain will take over the command of the ship.
If for any reason both Master and Staff Captain are incapacitated, the next one in line of succession is the Chief Safety Officer.
Following the Company's policy, most of our Safety Officers are in possession of a Master's license. If all the above are unable to perform their duties, the command goes to the remaining Deck Officers at a prearranged order set by the Master in advance, depending on their license, seniority and experience.
In case that a succession of command must take place, the senior deck Officer on board immediately notifies the Head office in Miami, "AVP, Nautical Operations & Fleet Captain" and Senior Vice President Operations.
Seniority On Board: The seniority order on board, which is independent of the succession in command, is as follows:
§ Captain
§ Chief Engineer
§ Hotel Director
§ Staff Captain
The Chief Engineer, Hotel Director and Staff Captain are considered Division Heads of the Engineering Division, Hotel Division and Deck Division, respectively.
Master and Officer Visibility: The Captain shall take daily walks of the all ship’s public areas with his team of Senior Officers. The daily walks shall take place between the hours of 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at least four (4) Officers shall take part of the daily walks. During these daily walks the Captain and Senior Officers are to interact with out guests and engage in conversation wit them, and take this opportunity to solicit guest’s feedback. In the event the Captain is not available, due to extenuating circumstances he will then appoint the Chief Engineer or Staff Captain to lead the team.
Officers when in guest areas are to be in uniform and not in coveralls, unless there is specific operational reason (such as repairs). They are to always greet the guests and take every opportunity to solicit feedback from them regarding their cruise experience.
Officers 3-stripes and above that are not on watch duty should attend and participate in the Captain’s Club Party and other guest functions onboard, where Officers’ attendance is required.
Inspections: The Captain is required to make a thorough inspection of the ship once a week. This is not optional. Public rooms, guest staterooms, corridors, landing, etc, are to be inspected. At the minimum, the Captain is to be accompanied by the Staff Captain, Chief Engineer, Hotel Director, Hotel Maintenance Manager, and Chief Housekeeper. During these inspections, only English shall be spoken. Other Officers and staff may be requested to attend the inspections at the Captain’s discretion.
Leave of Absence in Port: Leave is to be granted only by the Captain for the Deck personnel.
If the Captain is ashore, the Staff Captain must remain on board.
Fuel Margin: When planning a long trip, the Master, in consultation with the Chief Engineer, must allow for a long trip (a safety margin in the bunkers about 20-25%).
Sailing with One Propeller Shaft Only: In case that one propeller shaft is rendered inoperative for any reason, the Master should notify the "AVP, Nautical Operations & Fleet Captain" and Senior Vice President Operations in Miami, in order to discuss and decide whether the vessel should sail with or without passengers on one propeller only.
Ship's Certificates: The Master must make sure that all certificates are in force and must advise the Miami office of any renewal.
Log Book: The Master must supervise how the Log Book is written and kept by the Deck Officer, checking the Watch Officers to see that everything of importance is recorded. Any damage done to the ship, no matter how small, must be entered.
Safety & Quality Management: Understands the Safety & Quality Management Program, and their responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill. Responsible to carry out the assigned responsibilities in case of a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) as described in the Situation Management Plan (see related entries).
Time & Attendance: As champion of the Time & Attendance policy the incumbent will ensure that all crewmembers are in compliance with this policy

Leadership, organizational, administrative and clerical skills; the ability to evaluate operating conditions and interpret changing weather conditions and make operational adjustments necessary.

• While performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Extensive travel from ship to ship with varying accommodations and resting opportunities require good health. Active management of health through diet and exercise is a key for prolonged success in the position
• All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
