POSITION SUMMARY
- Under the direction of the Cruise Director and Assistant Cruise Director, the Disc Jockey is responsible for the musical entertainment in the nightclub of all guests and assisting with bar promotions in the nightclub onboard the ship. To consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product and services, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists in leading any of the scheduled social, entertainment or recreational activities, ensuring that each event takes place promptly as scheduled.
- Responsible for setting the appropriate atmosphere through the use of personal music library for any assigned activities, with specific responsibilities in the nightclub and themed events around the ship.
- Must provide their own equipment which may include, but is not limited to, the following: Laptop, DJ Controller, Audio Interface, Mixer, Digital Turntables, Personal Music / Music Video Library, External Storage.
- Must be comfortable with using a microphone and hosting public events and must have the ability to serve as an effective Master of Ceremonies.
- Maintain, store, and keep accurate/updated inventory of all musical equipment provided by NCL/NCLH.
- Provide handover documentation to incoming Disc Jockeys that contributes to a
smooth transition of the operation. - Each Disc Jockey must have the ability to work as a team member in cooperation with other Cruise and Youth Staff members, as well as with all other shipboard departments.
- It is the responsibility of the Disc Jockey to be accessible and approachable with the guests. They must be capable of being a patient listener while making the guests feel at home.
- Meet & greet guests upon embarkation.
- Assist with private parties and functions.
- Assist with any guest song requests.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor, manager, or director from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy, SEMS and
carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for the position
DIMENSIONS
- Able to lift at least 50 lbs
- Climb on step stool or ladder in order to complete elements of job or facilitate maintenance issues.
- Bend, lean and stoop without hindrance.
- Fine motor skills.
- Use stairs often.
- Work within different temperature changes—indoors to outdoors.
- Able to pass basic safety course.
NATURE AND SCOPE
- The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a disc jockey in various entertainment venues is required.
- Minimum of two years’ experience serving as a Master of Ceremonies is required.
- Basic to Intermediate ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English is required; and other languages are preferred.
- Minimum of one-year basic experience with mixing old and current music and the ability to mix for dancing is required.
- Experience with mixing music videos is highly preferred.
EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or Foreign Equivalent is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the essential functions of this job, all team members are required to stand; walk long distances on the ship; use hands to touch, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, taste and smell. All vessel positions require repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down stairs and lifting more than 25 pounds. This job requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
