Course description

The course is developed in accordance with the STCW Convention Section A-VI/6 paragraph 6-8 and the ISPS Code part A 13.3 / B 13.3. and IMO model course 3.26 “Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties".

The course is about how to perform your assigned security duties on board a ship, as required by international maritime regulations. It covers topics such as security threats and risks, security inspections, security equipment and systems, security-related emergency and contingency procedures, anti-piracy and anti-armed robbery measures, and reporting of security incidents.

Certification and approval

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a certificate of proficiency. The course is approved by the Maritime Administration of Ukraine (IMO white list) on the syllabus "Designated Security Duties".

Delivery method

The course is delivered through an online learning platform and consists of lectures, videos, quizzes and case studies.

Course objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Explain the purpose and scope of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and other relevant conventions and laws
2. Identify the duties and obligations of the ship owner, operator, master, crew, port authorities, and other parties involved in ship security
3. Recognize the common security threats and risks faced by ships and ports, such as piracy, terrorism, smuggling, stowaways, cyberattacks, etc.
4. Apply the principles of risk management to assess the security level of your ship and its surroundings
5. Implement appropriate security measures according to the ship security plan and the security level
6. Communicate effectively with other crew members, port officials, security personnel, and external parties
7. Undertake regular security inspections of the ship and its surroundings
8. Properly use security equipment and systems, such as alarms, locks, cameras, radios, etc.
9. Take part in security-related emergency and contingency procedures

Entry requirements

This course is mandatory for seafarers who have designated security duties as stated in the Ship Security Plan.
