Members of the ship's crew must obtain a supplementary competence certificate - Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1) before the first embarkation, in accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance on seafarers' titles and certificates of competency.
The candidate must be at least 16 years of age and must have mastered special programs, i.e. attended a course and passed an exam.

- Personal Safety and Social Responsibility VI/I-4
The training includes 36 school hours of lectures and 19 school hours of exercises.
Lectures and part of the exercises are performed in modern classrooms in accordance with IMO (International Maritime Organization) standards, and the rest of the exercises are held on training grounds with the prescribed equipment in accordance with the concession approval of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. The certificate ("certificate") is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of issue, and is renewed for the same period based on the re-successful completion of the training program or re-taking the exam to obtain the relevant certificate.
After successfully completing the course and examinations at the Harbor Master's Office, candidates will receive a Certificate of Basic Security on board issued by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia.
In addition to the Basic Safety Certificate (certificate) on board the ship, it is necessary to have a valid Seaman’s Book with a valid certificate of medical fitness.
